Seventy exchanges dropped Monero. It went to $500.

Since 2024 more than seventy exchanges have removed Monero. Coinbase dropped XMR, Zcash, Dash and Horizen on 7 April 2026. By early September 2026 XMR was trading near $500, with analysts calling it overbought rather than abandoned.

The mechanism is not mysterious. A delisting removes a venue, not a reason. The reason people hold Monero — that its ledger does not publish who paid whom — is untouched by an exchange's compliance decision, and every removal narrows the set of places where that demand can express itself. Concentration looks like a rally.

There is a warning inside the good news. Fewer venues means thinner exits, worse spreads on the ones that remain, and more weight on peer-to-peer and atomic swaps that most people have never used. A coin can be in demand and still be hard to sell at three in the morning.

What this means in practice: if you hold a privacy coin, the question is no longer "where do I buy it" but "where do I get out, and does that place ask for documents". Decide before you need the answer, not during.
